When Best Buy opened their music centers I saw a huge oppritunity to bring to life an idea I have had for some time now. I have always wondered how bands find all of their different parts and more importantly if a band loses a key piece to their puzzle then how do they find the perfect fit. Best Buy talent search was perfect to bring this to life. It's all about spreading music and connecting musicians while supplying them with the exact gear which they require.

The center piece for this idea was the website. It allowed you to create your own digital audicion. If you were unable to upload one of your own Best Buy had a booth built into the music section where you could record and upload right from the store using any instrument you desired. This created a database of people and there talents anyone could search and discover. Broken down by location and ability, it made it easy to find that piece you are missing. It also was a spot to find local bands and djs for your venue as well as browse the immense product selection that they offered in the store. We also had the idea for a mobile audition bus to create even more oppritunity for anyone to get their name and talent out there and be discovered.

The print design for magazines was less based on the talent search and more on the diversity of instuments that Best Buy offered. Using several different instuments to create one cohesive image illustrated the multitude of choices combined with the diffferent sounds, styles and legacies they have left behind. The copy illustrates this by pointing out the instument you choose has a distinct sound all its own and could be the style you are ultimatly famous for.

Instore
First I wanted to create a large call for talent on the front window that would draw people in from a great distance. Since the music centre was traditionally located at the rear of the store I wanted to peak peoples interest before they were even through the front door and send them on a mission to find out more. The take away was bag designs that made it look like you are walking out with a new amplifier that you got back in the music section making paserbys think that is the plce to get your equiptment.

Talent Search Bus
Connected to the website and talent search was the mobile unit. To maximize the exposure and ability for others to participate the mobile audition bus was created. Not only is the back half a recording studio where you can record and upload your own audition but in the main cab they would display famous musicians pieces along with products they offer for you to try out. This bus is perfect got outdoor events such as fairs and music festivals.
